With each new fundraiser your church or charity begins you must keep in mind the basic guidelines of fundraising.  This article helps you to keep focused while planning your next fundraiser.

Emotions are what drive a successful fundraiser.  People need to feel good and proud of them selves when they give.  This will keep the donations pouring in.  It is however, good practice to keep in mind other points as well as keeping your givers happy.  Below are some of the other points to consider.

When you place givers in front of a fundraiser and they give or choose not to give there may be many reasons for this.  First of all people need to know why you are asking for money.  Your givers have worked hard for there money and they want to fully understand why you are asking for it.  Also remember that people have reasons other than selfishness to not give.  Make sure that everyone feels wanted and appreciated at your fundraising event. 

Thank you, thank you, and thank you.  You must always remember to send out hand written thank you notes after your fundraiser.   People need to feel good about you and your fundraising this is why they give.  By you taking the time to personally write out a thank you card after your fundraising efforts you are saying ‘we need you, and appreciate you’.

Your donors are special.  Treat them as such.  Make sure that everyone feels that they are appreciated and needed.  Target all income and age levels.  Realize that young children will be tomorrow’s leaders so teach them now how good it feels to give.  When you are inclusive rather than exclusive with your fundraising you will be doing both you and your donors a great service.

If you are not a planner become a planner now.  Your fundraiser will benefit from proper planning and thrive under your leadership when you have clear cut goals and plans in place.  A poorly planned fundraiser on the other hand is likely to flounder as you continually scramble to make ends meet.
